CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading cancer support charity for young cancer patients, is celebrating ten years of its award-winning participation service.

In a freelance Art Director capacity, Aimee J were asked to work with aspiring artist/designer, Sophie, a former CLIC Sargent service user, to develop the ‘Participation Week’ visual identity. Sophie’s design interests lay in drawing and painting and we decided to make full use of her artistic talents to roll out the campaign. Inspired by the ‘Humans of New York’ stories, we focused on 12 individuals who have contributed to ‘Participation’ within CLIC Sargent. Our aim was to allow Sophie to capture the essence of each individual.

The campaign was tied together with an ident using a mix of Sophie’s painting and sketching skills representing all aspects of Participation. We presented posters as a gallery wall, removing the glass from the frames so there are no boundaries between the viewer and the artwork. We also animated a timeline showing the history of Participation so far and created a series of animated gifs showcasing each individual to promote ‘Participation’ on social media as well as postcards for use in hospitals and service centres.
